2020 Southwest Surf House Update

For those of you who have been following the SWSH journey you may have been aware of our slight dilemma for 2020. The end of era, or more so the end of a lease. We were in limbo and were unsure if we would have a Surf House to call home for the 2020 season. But thanks to some seriously good vibes coming from all over, I am now delighted to say that this is no longer the case. A new surf house has been found. But before we delve into surf house 2.0, Its necessary to tell you about our humble home for the last 3 summers and what it has done for SWSH.

SWSH started with a dream, 3 Decathlon foamies, a couple of donated wetsuits, a €500 rusty old van, and some good fortune. By good fortune I mean a chance encounter with a Hossegor local legend by the name of Sam Carrier. Sam, originally from Angourie NSW, lives with his wife Eunate, from the Basque country, and there 2 amazing kids Lilli and Pheonix at a lovely house located on Bourdaines Beach, Seginosse.  This house was Southwest Surf Houses home for the last 3 summers.

Sam and Eunate, being the salt of the Earth couple that they are, appreciated our SWSH dream and were happy the rent us their home with a super generous payment plan and an amount of trust that is incredibly rare to find in this day and age. Without this leg up, is it an absolute certainty that SWSH would never have been given a chance to get off the ground and realise its potential.

After 3 amazing summers the house at Bourdaines will now be passed back into control of Sam and Eunate who will be running a surf lodge of their own. This has been the couples dream for some 10 years now, and we couldn’t be more stoked for them on their new journey.

Now onto Surf House 2.0 for SWSH. Its safe to say luck was again on our side. Something I’m beginning to believe could be due to the universe answering our calls. The house is located right near Les Estagnots beach, which is one beach South of Les Bourdaines beach towards Hossegor town. The house is located in a quiet little street just off the main beach road and is about 400m from the beach itself. So, the good news is the bike rides into town will be a shorter, as will the walk to the beach. Bit of a win win.

The house itself is bigger than the last, with a nice big open living space and more spacious rooms. The garden also has a lot more space, with several things to note; plenty of beautiful mature trees to re-create hammock hotel, a nice flat grassed area for in-house yoga, and an amazing outdoor kitchen/entertaining area. Now this amazing outdoor area doesn’t quite exist yet, hence why there are no photos. But I assure you it will exist, and it will be amazing.

Speaking of, plans to renovate the new Surf House will happen in March/April. Ive posted a few photos of the house after a quick Pinterest blast of a few rooms, but most photos won’t be available until Spring. This is due to the whole SWSH team being in Australia at this point in time. A bit of relaxing summer holiday was in order to ensure your team are well rested and ready for the coming season. I can personally say, I cannot wait for what’s install for Southwest Surf House 2020.

On a final note, the 3 summers that we were incredibly lucky to have at our previous surf house were pivotal in shaping who are, and what we are about. There’s always a constant reflection and observing process happening each passing summer that takes into account everything from guest feedback, to our personal fulfilment and happiness levels.  This process allows the surf house to naturally evolve and improve organically towards our intentions; creating more amazing experiences and moments with people like you. We aren’t striving to be average, or even great, we want to be the best at what we do.

Looking forward to seeing you all in the coming 2020 season.

All the best, Raff and the team.
